SpearUAV has announced the world's first drone that launches from underwater
American company SpearUAV introduced a unique unmanned aerial vehicle. Its feature is the ability to launch from under water.
What is known
The quadcopter is called Nixon 103 U.W. Sub-to-Air. It can perform reconnaissance beyond the range of the submarine's periscope. To prevent the ship from being detected, the launch of the UAV capsule is carried out with a delay of up to a day. The new unmanned aerial vehicle has already aroused interest among US defense companies.
Weight Nixon 103 U.W. Sub-to-Air is 1 kg. The drone is able to stay in the air without recharging for 45 minutes, covering a distance of up to 10 km. To launch from a submarine, a special sealed capsule is used.
In the air, the quadcopter opens and starts the engines. According to the manufacturer, the equipment Nixon 103 U.W. Sub-to-Air includes infrared sensors for reconnaissance. To capture the target, an AI system with an open architecture is provided. The drone can transmit data to the operator via an encrypted radio channel.
