The next affordable iPad will get A14 Bionic chip and a USB-C port
The iPad is Apple's most affordable tablet, starting at $329 and coming in at that price point presently. Last September, the current version of the iPad was updated. According to a new report, it will see more significant changes this year. The next inexpensive iPad will feature a Retina display with the same 1640x2360 resolution as the iPad Air and will therefore have a different screen size than before, going from 10.2" to 10.9". Support for a wide color gamut and high brightness, however, will continue to be available only on Apple's higher-priced tablets.
The next low-cost iPad will use the A14 Bionic chip with 5G capability and a USB-C connection, according to the same source. The Lightning port will be removed from the future cheap iPad, according to the same source. As a result of this change, Apple's entire contemporary tablet lineup will include USB-C onboard. It's strange that iPhones have yet to adopt USB-C, but they may be forced to in the near future. It remains uncertain when this new low-cost iPad will be released, but if history is any guide it should appear at Apple's fall iPhone unveiling event.
