Apple plans to release 13.3-inch OLED MacBook in 2024
According to a new study from industry analyst Ross Young of the Display Supply Chain Consultants, Apple is developing new OLED laptops and tablets. The launch of these new displays is scheduled for sometime in 2024.
It is looking increasingly likely that Apple will launch a 13.3” OLED notebook in 2024 in addition to the 11” OLED and 12.9” iPad Pro’s. It is expected to be a MacBook Air, but could potentially become a MacBook, MacBook Pro or new category.
According to the publication, Apple will either introduce a new MacBook category, update the MacBook Air or the MacBook Pro. Given that the MacBook Air was just updated for the year, a fresh MacBook pro or a new category appear to be more probable options. This news is likely to change over time, but it's possible that it won't.
Meanwhile, combining the two technologies may improve screen durability and energy efficiency while reducing power consumption by 30% on 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays utilizing “tandem stack” display technology. Furthermore, Apple's OLED screens are predicted to have variable refresh rates for greater efficiency. The only MacBooks from Apple that include OLED displays are the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros; they're known as "Liquid Retina XDR."
According to a recent report, Apple is developing a 15-inch MacBook Air. There are also rumors of a tiny 12-inch MacBook according to the same source. By TSMC in the second half of this year, new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros will be available, with M2 Pro and M2 Max chips from Apple.
