Recently we wrote that Ukrainian servicemen were trained to work with the HIMARS MLRS, and at the end of this month, American multiple launch rocket systems should enter service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Now the publication Politico writes that the Pentagon is considering the possibility of doubling the number of deliveries of MLRS HIMARS.

How much and when?

As part of the approved aid package, the US is sending four HIMARS to Ukraine. But Defense Department sources say the Pentagon is considering doubling that number and is considering sending four more MLRS. However, the agency is still weighing all options, and the decision to send four more weapons is not yet final, one of the Defense Department officials said, noting that American assistance is made after consultation with allies and partners.

According to the official, the decision will be "based on the urgent needs of Ukraine."

However, members of a Ukrainian delegation visiting Washington this week say the country needs many more weapons than the White House has already approved. “We asked for 10 times more,” said Oleksandra Ustinova, People's Deputy of Ukraine.

Recall, the US is already sending four HIMARS, a mobile missile launcher, as well as precision-guided munitions that can hit targets at a distance of 48 miles (about 77 kilometers). In the meantime, the UK is sending three similar weapons, the US-made M270 multiple launch rocket system with a range of 50 miles (80 kilometers). Germany also announced this week that it will donate three M270s to Kyiv.
