The State Administration of Railway Transport of Ukraine "Ukrzaliznytsia" plans to use Elon Musk's Starlink satellite Internet on trains.

What we know

Yuriy Shchygol, the head of Communications Department, told this in an interview to Liga.Tech. Now the network is being tested, and if all goes well, the project will be launched at the end of this year.

“When we contacted Starlink technicians after testing and showed how it worked, even they were surprised that we were able to use Starlink that way. According to the technical characteristics, it should not operate at such speeds. But it works and provides services."

If you suddenly didn't know

Starlink is SpaceX's global satellite system that provides high-speed satellite broadband Internet in places where it has been unreliable, expensive, or completely unavailable.

Recall that since the beginning of a full-scale war on February 24, Ukraine has received more than 10,000 Starlink stations. With their help, it became possible to quickly restore communications on the territories affected by the hostilities. In addition, satellite Internet helps keep the military in touch. It also keeps critical facilities running throughout the country.
