McMurtry Speirling broke a 23-year-old record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed - it accelerates to 100 km/h twice as fast as the Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae

The unusual McMurtry electric car Speirling took part in the Goodwood Festival of Speed and managed to break the speed record, which lasted 23 years.

What we know

McMurtry Speirling is a British-made supercar. It was equipped with a fan-based power system for the festival. It is based on the car Brabham BT46B which won the Swedish Grand Prix in F1. The British electric car can go from zero to 100 km/h in less than 1.5 s, i.e. twice as fast as Lamborghini Aventador LP 780-4 Ultimae.

As part of the Festival of Speed, the car was able to travel 1.86 km and climb the hill at Goodwood in only 39.08 seconds. The previous official record was set in 1999. Its author was the German racer Nick Heidfeld. His McLaren MP4/13 F1 was able to overcome the track 23 years ago in 41.6 seconds. Note that in 2019, Roman Dumas, winner of Le Mans, reached the finish line in 39.9 s. However, the result was not officially recorded because the race was not part of the Festival of Speed.

As for McMurtry Speirling, the car will be upgraded for public roads. At the same time, the supercar will keep its 1000 horsepower engine. The cost of McMurtry Speirling will be at least £1 000 000. Only a few cars will be available.
