Google has announced that it will slow its hiring efforts for the rest of 2022 in order to focus on strategy and innovation. Pichai, like Meta and other tech firms, cited an "unpredictable global economic situation" as a reason for slowing down, and he stated that the business would consolidate activities and simplify "where investments overlap."

The second quarter of 2022 saw Google add 10,000 new employees to its 163,906-person workforce, up 17 percent year over year. However, for the rest of the year, Google will concentrate on hiring in engineering, technical and other key occupations.

"Moving forward, we need to be more entrepreneurial, working with greater urgency, sharper focus, and more hunger than we’ve shown on sunnier days. In some cases, that means consolidating where investments overlap and streamlining processes. In other cases, that means pausing deployment and re-deploying resources to higher priority areas."

Microsoft will cut a few jobs as part of its plan to realign business groups, according to Bloomberg. Consultants and partner solutions across the world will be affected by these cuts. Microsoft, on the other hand, plans to continue hiring in various disciplines and expect to have more staff at the end of 2022 than it did this year.

The employment picture may not improve anytime soon. According to a number of experts, the slowing economy will have an impact on hiring. "One of the worst downturns [it has seen] in recent history" could hit Meta, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who urged managers to "move to exit" poor performers "who are unable to get on track." Netflix, Unity, Coinbase, and PayPal have all recently eliminated positions.
