Instagram introduces new map experience to help users find more locations
This week, Instagram announced a new map experience that is now being delivered to iOS and Android users. Users will be able to easily discover more places nearby and see what other people are posting about with this new tool. Instagram already had a feature allowing users to view other people's posts on a map. The Meta-owned platform is now adding even more features to this functionality, which has evolved into an alternative for finding a new restaurant, cafe, or park. This functionality, of course, is based on users' geotags.
You can search for a certain location in the Explore page or hover over a post's or Story's location tag to see what's around. Then, the Instagram app displays other prominent locations on the map so you can check out additional posts and Stories posted at those places.
To make the search even easier, Instagram gives users several fast filter options, such as food and drink establishments, coffee shops, festivals, bars, and hotels. After you've found a location that appeals to you, you may save it for later, send a direct message to it, share it with someone else using Facebook's new Story feature, or even follow its Instagram profile. "The new map will enable users to rediscover local businesses," Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated in a Story posted on the social media network.
Instagram, like its major rival TikTok, has been improving its functionality in order to keep up. Instagram just introduced a subscription feature so that content producers may make money from their work.
The new version of the app is now accessible on iOS and Android devices.
