Apple Watch Pro will receive new design and larger display, but without new sensors
In the next two months, Apple will release three new Apple Watches, including the rumored Apple Watch Pro. This new high-end model, dubbed "rugged" and intended for "extreme sports," will be the company's latest attempt to appeal to a certain demographic. In his most recent Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg provides more information about this upcoming device. The Apple Watch Pro would have a larger display, longer battery life, and a new body-temperature sensor. Gurman thinks that this watch may last for days on one charge thanks to the rumored low-power mode – which Apple still hasn't discussed.
What's fascinating is that while a Bloomberg writer claims Apple will offer "an evolution of the current rectangular design, rather than circular," implying that this Apple Watch Pro will be its first fresh appearance since 2018, it won't have the supposed flat sides that some predicted for the Apple Watch Series 7.
It looks like the Apple Watch Pro will be able to handle extreme sports with the new version of watchOS 9. This operating system adds more information in a glance than ever before, while also updating older Watch Faces that didn't take advantage of bigger displays.
While the body-temperature sensor will most certainly be included with the Apple Watch Series 8 and Apple Watch Pro, Gurman said that other sensors haven't changed. He claims that blood-pressure technology won't be available until 2025, while glucose functionality may not be accessible until much later in the decade.
With that in mind, Apple will have a hard time bringing new features to the market since it has been two years since the introduction of a new sensor, and it's believed that the same Apple Watch Series 6 chip will be used on the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8.
