Insta360 launches Link, a 4K webcam with a 3-axis gimbal

The Insta360 is a brand well-known for its 360 cameras and action cams, so we shouldn't be shocked when it launched its first ever dedicated webcam product today. The Insta360 Link is a 4K webcam with a 3-axis gimbal, essentially similar to the DJI Pocket 2 without the body. The 1/2-inch sensor, according on the company, is significantly larger than what other companies provide. The Logitech Brio, for example, has a 1/4-inch sensor and the more recent OBSBOT Tiny 4K has a 1/2.8-inch sensor, so the Link should outperform both in terms of accuracy and dynamic range. Insta360 added two noise-canceling microphones to the mix, which is fantastic given that remote working is becoming increasingly popular.

The Link's built-in screen clip can be utilized to hang it on a monitor, or it can be hung using a standard 1/4-inch mount. Then you only have to allow the device's AI algorithm to recognize your face, so that the camera may pan and zoom — up to 4x digitally — to keep you in frame. The AI function not only supports zooming in and out using gestures, but it also has support for whiteboard board, similar to auto keystone correction on projectors, but for displaying your whiteboard instead. When you're finished with the Link, it directs its camera down automatically within 10 seconds of inactivity as a matter of privacy.

The Link Controller software lets you customize image characteristics such as brightness, exposure, white balance, and more. You can also choose lower resolution framerates instead of 4K 30fps to improve frame rate performance. The program also includes a variety of shooting modes. DeskView Mode allows you to quickly switch between your face and your tabletop during your usual show-and-tell session.

There's also Whiteboard Mode, which lets you keep track of your whiteboard area (each market is reusable), Portrait Mode for live streaming in portrait orientation, and Overhead Mode for displaying the Link below to show your subject on the tablet (you'll probably want to attach the device to a tablet stand for this). If necessary, you may switch on HDR mode if the backlight is intense; however, it's only available at 1080p or 720p resolution and limited to 30fps.

The Insta360 Link is compatible with Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype, Google Meet, and other video conference services on both Mac and Windows. It's asking for $300 right now and is available.
