It's hard to look at: the Kiev customs burned 2.5 thousand counterfeit gadgets a la Apple
Kiev customs reported the destruction of a large batch of counterfeit gadgets, which were counterfeit Apple products.
How it was
A total of 10 batches of counterfeit products, which were imported to Ukraine in violation of the legally protected intellectual property rights of Apple Inc. These are headphones, power supplies, adapters and other accessories - a total of 2.5 thousand gadgets. As required by the procedure, they were burned in a special oven.
Most of these goods were imported in small batches by postal channels and international express delivery.
And in the near future another batch of counterfeit products will be destroyed.
By the way, on the page of Kyiv customs in Facebook there was an interesting question: why were these gadgets destroyed, and not used for more useful purposes? For example, to distribute them to retirees, migrants, low-income families, etc. The customs officers replied: "The decision to destroy or not to destroy the counterfeit products is made only by the right holder, in our case Apple. Customs has no way to influence this. Apple's position is to destroy, because counterfeit goods should not be used anywhere. And in this case, the function of customs is to monitor compliance with legislation on the protection of intellectual property rights, belonging to the holder of the trademark. This is the world practice and Ukraine is no exception and complies with international norms in the field of protection of intellectual property rights. That is why we cannot give them out to pensioners or hand them over to the Armed Forces of Ukraine or to anyone else".
