LG launches new Android tablet with modest specs in South Korea
What is it with obsolete or dying smartphone manufacturers and bad tablets lately? First, the HTC A101 was revealed in South Africa a little over a month ago, with Android 11 on board and a modest set of hardware specs. Now, the LG Ultra Tab is available in South Korea, where it comes pre-installed with Android 12 and has even less impressive specs and features than its predecessors.
Unlike the name implies, this new 10.35-inch device isn't a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra rival because it doesn't match most of the finest Android tablets in terms of raw power with a middling Snapdragon 680 processor under the hood. Of course, seeing the LG Ultra Tab released outside of Korea is unlikely (to say the least), so comparing this slate to other 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab A8s from our US or European readers isn't worth it.
Nonetheless, it's surprising that LG is willing to try again in a tablet market where the brand has never been very active or relevant after giving up on making smartphones for good last year. Just in case you're... curious for some reason, the pretentiously named Ultra Tab contains a modest 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage space, as well as a not-so-bad screen resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels and microSD expansion support, even including a classic 3.5mm headphone jack.
To top it all off, add a strong body weighing 458 grams and measuring 7.1mm in thickness, as well as a fast-charging 7,040mAh battery and four undoubtedly powerful speakers to the equation, and the bang for buck factor appears to be pretty solid overall on paper at a regional price of around $350. But this is clearly too little and (way) too late to restore LG's position on the worldwide mobile map.
