LG unveils huge 97-Inch OLED screen that delivers 5.1 sound without speakers
LG Display is revealing exciting new OLED technologies at the K-Display 2022 conference in Seoul, South Korea this week, and LG Electronics is starting things off with the introduction of some significant OLED advancements. The OLED.EX display is the star of LG's 2022 K-Display booth. Apart from being the world's biggest OLED panel, the 97-inch OLED.EX display is also LG's first EX product in its new EX lineup.
LG's new OLED panels will feature a deuterium and software algorithm in order to improve brightness levels by up to 30% over existing OLED panels, according on the company. The use of EX technology is also said to help the display achieve "perfect black" and vivid colors.
Aside from the display's enormous size, one of the distinguishing features is a technology called Film CSO (Cinematic Sound OLED), which converts the whole OLED panel into a big speaker. This feature enables LG to utilize its TV as a 5.1 channel sound system because it can produce noises via vibration and allow the entire OLED panel to function as a large speaker. In addition to the huge 97-inch screen, LG revealed two new 48-inch and 42-inch models in its OLED.EX line.
Another interesting piece of OLED technology on display was LG's lineup of transparent OLED displays, which resemble something straight out of a sci-fi film. These transparent OLED panels, according to LG, will be used in the future to display advertisements and art. When switched on, these displays appear identical to ordinary OLED screens; however, when switched off, they become transparent. Because these experimental OLED displays emit less heat than LEDs, they're perfect for wall mounting.
