T-Mobile and Ilon Musk's company SpaceX introduced Starlink V2: satellite mobile communication that will work without additional equipment
American operator T-Mobile and the company Ilon Musk SpaceX announced Starlink second generation.
Here's What We Know
Unlike the original version, the second-generation technology is designed to provide universal mobile communications for smartphone users. Starlink V2 will cover all dead zones through satellites. According to the company, 20 percent of the United States and 90 percent of the Earth has no wireless coverage. Also an advantage of Starlink V2 is the absence of additional equipment. That is, smartphones will receive communications directly from the satellites in space.
To operate the new technology Starlink satellites will use medium-band spectrum PCS T-Mobile and antennas with a diameter of 5-6 meters. As for the connection speed, it will be 2-4 Mbit / s. This will be enough for messaging and voice calls. Of course, SpaceX plans to increase the speed in the future.
When We Can Expect It
Beta-testing of Starlink V2 will begin in the U.S. in the near future. The full-scale launch of the technology will take place in 2023.
