Less than a week is left before the release of the Rebuild version of The Last of Us for PS5 and the developers are actively sharing new information about the game. In their latest PlayStation blog, players were told more about NPCs, animations, the combat system and more.

Here's What We Know

There will be brand new character models in the game. For example, the models of Henry & Sam were not taken from the remaster, but were created from scratch.

The developers redid the locations and made them more detailed. In Boston, in the original TLoU, when players get to the historical museum, you could see half-empty rooms and office space. Now it's like an art restoration station, with busts of American colonialists and figures on the walls.

A lot of attention was paid to the combat system and NPCs. Due to technical limitations on the PS3, the development team was not able to give the artificial intelligence (AI) many features. Now we have more dynamic encounters thanks to paired search, topographical analysis on finding another path, more enemy movement and new unique events in locations that weren't there before. So things like sneaking and ambushing will work in more situations.

Before, there could be no more than 8 NPCs on the screen. Now Naughty Dog says that thanks to the capabilities of the PlayStation 5, such a concept as "limit" in the game has disappeared altogether. The developers also promise unique battle scenes each time a new playthrough.

We should expect new, more improved animations, it will make the already tense scenes even more emotional. But the animation improvements are not limited to the characters. Thanks to new lighting and animation techniques, the game's world has a greater degree of visual accuracy and detail.

A remaster is about technical and artistic design, and this game we made from scratch, Naughty Dog

The Last of Us Part 1 comes out September 2 on PlayStation 5 and later on PC.
