iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus - updated A15 Bionic, improved 12MP cameras, satellite connectivity and iOS 16 from $799
Along with the Apple Watch SE, Watch Ultra and Series 8 smartwatches, Apple unveiled the long-awaited iPhone 14 smartwatches. Let's start with the basic model and the Plus version, which replaces the mini variant in this generation.
What Do They Have In Common?
Both smartphones have a glass body with a metal frame and IP68 protection. A crash detection feature has appeared. In case of an accident smartphone will automatically send SOS notification to the emergency services. Also new is support for satellite communication, but it will only work in the U.S. and Canada. The service will be offered for free for two years.
The main camera has a wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle modules. Both are still equipped with 12 MP sensors, but already larger. The optical power is f/1.5 and f/2,4 respectively. Apple says that the Photonic Engine technology will significantly improve the quality of photos, adding 2.5 times more details. Night mode shooting capabilities have also improved.
Both smartphones can record 4K UHD video at 24/30/60 FPS. There is support for HDR and Dolby Vision HDR up to 60 FPS. There is an image stabilization system with matrix shift. The front camera also has a 12 MP (f/1.9) module with 4K@60 FPS support, but compared to the last generation it captures 38% more light.
The hardware platform in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus is built around the updated A15 Bionic chip with a 5-core graphics chip. The power of the latter in comparison with the iPhone 13 has increased by 80%. The amount of RAM is not specified. The smartphones work under the operating system iOS 16.
What Is Different?
The models differ in size. The basic iPhone 14 has a 6.1" OLED screen. The Plus version got a 6.7" display. Both have a wide cutout in the style of the iPhone 13. But there is no support for higher refresh rate.
As always, Apple does not specify the battery capacity. We will find it out in a few days. But the manufacturer claims that the iPhone 14 Plus will have the best battery life in the history of the iPhone.
How Much Do They Cost?
The iPhone 14 will be available from September 16 for prices starting at $799. The Plus version will cost $899 with basic memory option. Apple will start taking pre-orders for both smartphones on September 9.
