We have repeatedly written that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are using M777A2 howitzers with M982 Excalibur precision-guided missiles at the front. Now, thanks to Bloomberg, details have emerged about the supply of such shells.
Here's What We Know
According to Bloomberg, the U.S. has transferred M982 Excalibur projectiles with GPS guidance to Ukraine. We are talking about a batch of 900 pieces. According to the budget reports, the US Department of Defense spent $92,000,000 on their purchase.
The AFU can use M982 Excalibur not only with M777A2 howitzers, but also with PzH 2000 self-propelled artillery units. With the M982 Excalibur the range is increased to 40.5 km. The error of engagement is only 2 meters.
Recall that the M982 Excalibur is produced by the company BAE Systems AB. The projectile began to be developed in 1995. It entered into service in 2005.
