The United States announced the transfer of 1,000 RAAM (Remote Anti-Armor Mine) shells to Ukraine. They were included in a new package of military aid worth $675 million.
Here's What We Know
RAAM shells are designed for 155mm artillery. For example, they can be used with M109 self-propelled artillery units or M777 howitzers, which are in service with the AFU.
RAAM structure
These projectiles are designed to destroy tanks. One RAAM is equipped with nine anti-tank mines. The range of the projectile ranges from 4 to 17.6 km.
RAAM operating concept
By the way, this type of projectiles were developed during the Cold War, when the Soviet Union had more tanks than NATO.
