"Buy your mom an iPhone" - Tim Cook's response to a question about RCS support in iMessage
Apple CEO Tim Cook rejected the idea of adding RCS support to iMessage. RCS is an open messaging standard used on Android devices. Adding support for the standard would solve the "green bubble" problem in iMessage.
"I haven't heard our users emphasize it too much," Cook said when asked how Apple founder Steve Jobs would feel about introducing RCS into iMessage. Vox Media journalist Liquan Hunt complained to Apple's CEO that his mom can't watch the videos he sends her. It all comes down to the lack of interaction between RCS and iMessege, which could positively affect the quality of photos and videos sent. If you decide to send a message from Android to iPhone via standard messaging, the recipient will see a poor quality blurry photo because it will be sent as an MMS. How did Cook comment on this? He advised the journalist to buy his mom an iPhone.
Although it may seem absurd, there is a whole campaign in the U.S. from Google against "green bubbles." The fact is that when you send messages from iMessage to an Android device, the color of the messages will be green, and you can know exactly what phone your interlocutor has. Despite this, Tim Cook has not changed his mind and is not going to add support for the technology to the messenger company.
