Intel has made an important announcement: it is abandoning the well-known Pentium and Celeron brands and renaming its entry-level processors.

Details

Now instead of Pentium and Celeron, Intel will produce processors with a simple name - Intel Processor. The first notebook with this chip will be released next year, nothing is yet known about PCs. In the meantime, Intel will continue to focus on its flagship brands: Intel Core, Intel Evo and Intel vPro.

The company said in a statement that Intel Processor will serve as the brand name for several processor families, helping consumers simplify the product buying process and streamline brand offerings across PC segments.

Josh Newman, vice president of Intel and interim general manager of mobile customer platforms, emphasized:

“Intel is committed to driving innovation to benefit users, and our entry-level processor families have been crucial for raising the PC standard across all price points. The new Intel Processor branding will simplify our offerings so users can focus on choosing the right processor for their needs.”

By the way, the Pentium and Celeron brands are almost 30 years old: Intel has been using the Pentium brand since 1993 and the Celeron brand since 1998.
