Tom Henderson: Disney plans to release Star Wars universe games twice a year, with 8 projects in development from various studios
Famous game journalist Tom Henderson reported that Disney and Lucasfilm wants to release 2 games in the Star Wars universe per year. One game should be AAA class, like Jedi: Fallen Order, and the other smaller scale, like Squadrons.
Here's What We Know
The intensification of game development took place after EA lost exclusive access to the franchise. Currently, there are 8 projects in development, but most of them do not even have a release date.
8 games that are in development:
- A game from Amy Hennig and Skydance
- A shooter from Respawn
- An open world game from Ubisoft Massive
- Star Wars: Eclipse from Quantic Dream
- Knights of the Old Republic remake from Saber Interactive
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor from Respawn
- Star Wars: Hunters from Zynga
- Strategy from Respawn
Henderson also noted that there are several more games in development that we do not know about. One of them may be a game based on The Mandalorian series, the journalist suggests that such a project may appear in the future. As for the eight announced projects, some of them will not be released soon. Some of these games will see the light of day at least in 4 years.
One of such games that got stuck at the development stage was Star Wars: Eclipse by Quantic Dream. It is believed that due to the problems that hang over the studio, the release of the game should be expected no earlier than in 2026.
One thing is clear: Lucasfilm is seriously focused on the gaming market and in the next two to four years we will see a lot of games set in a distant galaxy.
