Danish F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters detected a Russian gas leak in the Baltic Sea due to damage to the Nord Stream gas pipeline
On the night of September 26, a sharp drop in pressure was detected in the Nord Stream 2 pipeline. Later on, specialists detected gas leaks in both strands of Nord Stream 1. In the afternoon the pilots of F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters of the Danish Air Force took pictures at the place of the leak in the Baltic Sea.
Here's What We Know
In addition to pictures from the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, the Danish Air Force (Fotsvaret) published a video of the gas leak near the island of Bornholm. It belongs to Denmark and is located 170 km away from Copenhagen in the Baltic Sea.
Nord Stream AG has already called the three almost simultaneous incidents on three branches of the pipeline an unprecedented event. The operator is not yet in a position to estimate the time frame for resuming the infrastructure.
In addition, Denmark has asked Energinet, which ensures the operation of the Danish gas and electricity systems, to increase the level of preparedness of the country's gas sector after the leaks. Around the leaks 8-km zones have been set up, in which navigation is prohibited.
