The Armed Forces of Ukraine are learning to use the Aspide anti-aircraft missile system.

Here's What We Know

Nineteen Ukrainian servicemen are being trained at an air base in the city of Zaragoza, Spain. This was revealed by the country's Ministry of Defense. The exercise has been going on for several weeks and is due to end on October 14. After that another part of the soldiers will arrive in Spain. No information has yet been released as to when the deliveries of the Aspide SAM system will begin.

The Spada Aspide aka Skyguard Aspide is an anti-aircraft missile system jointly developed by Italy and Switzerland. It uses medium-range guided missiles to defeat air targets. The missiles are manufactured by the Selenia company. It includes anti-aircraft guided missiles and air-to-air missiles. In 1988 the Aspide Mk.1 was adopted by the Italian Air Force. The design of the missile is based on the American RIM-7E Sea Sparrow.
