Amazon no longer sees a future for its robotic delivery project.

Here's What We Know

The e-commerce giant has decided to close the project and remove robotic deliverymen from the roads of American cities, or rather from the sidewalks. Amazon promises that the specialists who were part of the Scout team will have the opportunity to stay with the company. They will be able to move to other positions that match the experience and skills gained during the work with the robots.

The decision to close the project was made after field tests. According to Amazon representatives, during the tests it became clear that some aspects of the program did not meet the expectations of customers who used the services of robotic couriers. What exactly is it about, the company is silent.

Amazon launched Project Scout in test mode in 2019. The company deployed six robots that looked like small moonwalkers. They were used to deliver orders in the Seattle area of Amazon's office. The robotic courier navigated sidewalks along a set route. Scout eventually appeared in Atlanta, Franklin, and southern California.
