Startup Skyrora performed the first launch of the suborbital rocket Skylark L. It ended in failure, but the company was still satisfied.

Here's What We Know

Skyrora is a Scottish company that wants to provide services to put small satellites into orbit. It has been working with the Icelandic authorities for several years, which resulted in the launch of the Skylark Micro mini-missile three years ago from a launch site on the Luanganes Peninsula.

Skylark L was launched from there, but malfunctioned a few minutes after launch. As a result, the rocket crashed into the Norwegian Sea 500 meters from the launch pad, from where its wreckage was recovered with a variety of swimming aids. As a result of the crash, there were no casualties, casualties or damage.

The Scottish startup cited bad weather as one of the reasons for the failure. Despite the fact that the rocket ended up not in orbit, but in the sea, the company was satisfied. Skyrora representatives said that even this outcome is another step toward achieving the goal, which is the first launch of a rocket from the territory of the United Kingdom. It is planned for 2023.
