Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said during an all-Ukrainian telethon when the U.S. is going to transfer the first air defense missile system NASAMS to the AFU.

When We Can Expect It

According to the Minister, the Ukrainian warriors are already being trained how to use NASAMS. The first deliveries of the SAMs will begin this month. First, two batteries will arrive in Ukraine. One battery consists of six mobile missile launchers. By 2024 the USA plans to send six more NASAMS to Ukraine. Raytheon and Kongsberg are already engaged in their production.

Flashback

NASAMS is a mobile surface-to-air missile system for destruction of maneuvering targets at low and medium altitudes. The system was developed in the early 1990s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense with the participation of the American Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles have a range of 20-40 km and maximum altitude of 20 km. The cost of one such battery is about $65 million.
