Waymo unmanned cabs are coming to Los Angeles
American startup Waymo, which belongs to the Alphabet holding company, plans to expand the geography of its unmanned cab service within the United States.
Here's What We Know
The unmanned cab service is called Waymo One. Now it is available exclusively in Phoenix, but in the near future residents of Los Angeles will be able to use the services of robotic cabs. But the company has not disclosed any timeline for the launch of the service.
Right now, Waymo is gathering information to create maps of Los Angeles. For this purpose, cars equipped with special sensors move along the city's roads. The company will receive information about roads, crosswalks, intersections and curbs.
Before Waymo's unmanned cabs start running, it needs to get the appropriate permission to test the service. In addition, there will be a driver behind the wheel during the initial implementation phase of the service.
