Journalists have already published a preview of God of War: Ragnarok. They were given the opportunity to play the game for 5 hours. Everyone notes the combat system, the living world, the variety of enemies, the character of Kratos and Atreus, as well as the graphics.

Here's What We Know

First of all, Kratos and Atreus are noted. The God of War began to care more about his son and support him. But he worries about him, as Atreus is no longer a boy, he has matured significantly. The son of Kratos has become more restrained and stable, he does not break down on trifles. In general, he is described as a more experienced fighter. However, Kratos cannot fully accept that Atreus has grown up and is transforming into the demigod he was born as.

In God of War (2018), most of the worlds we saw were simple arenas with enemies. Now every dimension in the Nine Realms feels alive. We also remembered about the puzzles. As VGC notes, the puzzles again achieve a good balance: they are challenging but not annoying. The game explains well what you can and cannot interact with, so you don't just throw an axe across the room at random.

The combat system has improved significantly. The number and variety of enemies contributes to this. Tom Henderson has already written that the game will have 11 factions.

If we analyze the VGC preview, they finished it as follows:

"So far, we’re impressed with how much better the combat feels, and while we expected the game to perform well, the boosted framerate and level of detail make the PS5 version a huge step up from the original game. This is shaping up to be the PlayStation 5’s defining game"

Graphical Modes of the Game for PS5 (Also Announced):

  • 4K 30FPS
  • 60 FPS
  • 4K 40FPS - for TVs with VRR support
  • 120 FPS - for TVs with VRR support

And finally, the journalists showed a lot of new screenshots of the game.

Flashback

God of War Ragnarok is a direct sequel to God of War (2018). The project is developed by Santa Monica studio. The events unfold in Scandinavian mythology and tell about the plight of the former Greek god of war Kratos, who moved to Scandinavia, started a family and is trying to become a real father to his young son Atreus. However, the traumas of the past do not allow Kratos to get over himself.
