Not only Spain: the U.S. will also give Ukraine the HAWK air defense system, which is capable of hitting targets up to 50 km away
Recently we wrote that Spain will transfer four Hawk air defense systems to Ukraine. As it turned out, the U.S. is also considering such a possibility.
Here's What We Know
The Reuters news agency writes about it, referring to American officials. It is not yet known how many SAMs are in question. Installations, most likely, will be transferred from the US army reserves. Deliveries of the systems should be announced shortly. After that they will arrive in Ukraine as soon as possible.
Flashback
Hawk (Homing All the Way Killer) is the American medium-range SAM. It was developed in 1954-1960 by Raytheon company. In 1960 it was adopted for service and since then it has received many modifications and improvements. The U.S. Army stopped using Hawk in 2002. More than 40 000 Hawk and Hawk-missile defense systems were produced. Hawk is capable of intercepting missiles and aircraft. Probability of engaging target is 85% (I-Hawk modification). Maximum range of the complex is 50 km.
