Google Chrome will stop supporting Windows 7 and 8.1 next year
Google plans to release the latest version of Chrome for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 next year. Chrome 110 is scheduled for release on Feb. 7, 2023, and will be the last browser update for older operating systems.
Here's What We Know
This could actually be a really big deal. Even though Windows 7 was released back in 2009 and Microsoft stopped supporting it in 2020, data shows that the operating system is still running on a huge number of devices: last year, for example, that number was over 100 million. This means that many may soon not only have an unsupported operating system, but also an unsupported browser, which could pose a serious security risk.
Chrome 110 will continue to work on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices, but it will stop receiving any updates and support. So, if you're still using one of these operating systems, you have one more reason to upgrade to a tenth or eleventh version of it.
