Sales of Sony PlayStation 5 game consoles increased to 25 million, but the number of subscribers decreased
Japanese giant Sony has published a report for the second fiscal quarter of 2022, which coincides with the third calendar quarter.
Here's What We Know
In three months, the Japanese corporation sold another 3.3 million PlayStation 5 game consoles. This figure in annual comparison has not changed, but the total supply of consoles increased to 25 million units. But the new generation consoles do not catch up with PlayStation 4, which sold 29.4 million units.
During the two fiscal quarters, PlayStation 5 shipments totalled 5.7 million units. At the same time, the Japanese company wants to sell 5 million units quarterly and reach the figure of 18 million models by the end of the fiscal year.
But the manufacturer failed to increase the number of PS Plus subscribers. During the reporting period, the service used 45.4 million users, compared to 47.2 million last year and 47.3 million in the previous quarter. In addition, the number of active PSN players fell over the year from 104 million to 102 million. 6.7 million copies of Sony games sold, while total sales of software reached 62.5 million copies.
