Apple was $17 million short between 2011 and 2018 because of a dishonest employee in global supply chain.

Here's What We Know

The California District Attorney's Office announced that a defendant named Dhirendra Prasad pleaded guilty to causing $17 million in damages to Apple over a seven-year period by profiting through fraudulent schemes.

More often than not, Prasad simply resold components that he stole from Apple. He sent stolen products to the supplier, who repackaged them and sold them again to the American manufacturer under the guise of new products.

Dhirendra Prasad also created invoices for non-existent services, which were paid by the company. In addition, the fraudster received kickbacks and inflated bills. Now the 52-year-old former Apple employee faces up to 20 years in prison. The court will make a final decision in the spring of 2023. The charges were also brought against two suppliers of the company, who were accomplices of our "hero."
