Swedish video game holding company Thunderful has acquired indie studio Jumpship, which released its first game Somerville on November 15.

Here's What We Know

According to gematsu, Jumpship will retain creative autonomy and continue to develop "first-class story games". Thunderful Games notes that Jumpship is a team with a deep artistic vision. And this purchase is an important part of the strategy to create strong internal IP.

Flashback

Jumpship was founded in 2017 by Chris Olsen along with former Playdead CEO and co-founder Dino Patti. Dino is known for being responsible for creating some of the best indie games: Limbo and Inside. After the acquisition, Patti will remain at Jumpship and will also take on a new role as a strategic advisor for Thunderful Games.

Flashback

The first Jumpship Somerville game is a sci-fi adventure based on the aftermath of a large-scale conflict. The main character must find the whereabouts of his family after an alien invasion.

The game is available on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and is part of the Game Pass collection.
