The price of Xiaomi 13 will increase by 15-20% compared to Xiaomi 12 due to the exchange rate, quarantine restrictions and the new positioning of the smartphone
Xiaomi in the coming weeks will introduce a new generation of flagship smartphones. This is good news, and the bad news is that the cost of models will increase compared to their predecessors.
Here's What We Know
According to Chinese media, the Xiaomi 13 will cost about ¥4500 ($630) in the base version. Thus, it will be ¥800 ($110) more expensive than the Xiaomi 12, which went on sale for ¥3699 ($520) in the 8/128GB configuration.
A well-known Digital Chat Station insider confirms the information that the price of the new generation smartphones will increase. However, he does not attribute the price hike to more modern technical characteristics.
According to the Chinese insider, there are three key reasons for the price increase, and they are not related to the parameters of Xiaomi 13. The first is the cost of the Chinese lockdown. The second is currency fluctuations. The third is some kind of "new positioning" of the flagships.
What should be meant by the updated positioning, it is still difficult to say. But very soon we will find out. Xiaomi 13 announcement date has not yet been specified, but Xiaomi Mi 11 and Xiaomi 12 were unveiled on December 28, 2020 and 2021, respectively.
