The Air Force may receive Gepard anti-aircraft guns from Qatar, which now protect stadiums of the FIFA World Cup 2022
The other day we wrote that Germany was planning to transfer an additional batch of Gepard anti-aircraft guns to Ukraine. Now Deutsche Welle has shared new details of the military assistance.
Here's What We Know
According to journalists' information, Germany can give anti-aircraft tanks from Krauss-Maffei Wegmann's stockpiles to the AFU, or Ukraine will receive Gepard from Qatar, which now protects the skies over the stadiums of the FIFA World Cup 2022. Unfortunately, there is no timetable for arms deliveries yet.
Flashback
The Gepard is a German-made self-propelled anti-aircraft gun-mounted machine gun (SPM). It is designed to cover the land forces, destroying the air targets at a slanting range of 100 m to 4 km and at altitudes up to 3 km flying at a speed of 350-400 m/s, as well as ground and surface targets at ranges up to 4500 meters.
The Gepard is built on the chassis of the Leopard tank. Ukraine currently has 30 such units in service. The AFU uses them to destroy Iranian kamikaze drones Shahed-136 and other aerial targets.
