The United States of America, together with panthers from the North Atlantic Alliance, want to find additional NASAMS surface-to-air missile systems for Ukraine in the Middle East.

Here's What We Know

Raytheon Technologies CEO Greg Hayes told the American publication Politico. This company produces the SAM system NASAMS together with Norwegian company Kongsberg.

According to Hayes, Ukraine's partners are already conducting negotiations on weapon supply with a number of countries in the Middle East. The USA wants to transfer NASAMS to the AFU in the nearest three-six months. This will allow Ukraine not to wait for a new batch of SAMs for two years.

Flashback

NASAMS is a mobile surface-to-air missile system for destruction of maneuvering targets at low and medium altitudes. The system was developed in the early 1990s by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense with the participation of the American company Raytheon. The SAM entered service with the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1994. AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles have a range of 20-40 km and maximum altitude of 20 km. The cost of one such battery is around $65 million. By the way, there are two NASAMS SAM systems now in service of the Armed Forces.
