On the morning of December 5, strategic airplanes were attacked in Russia. According to Politico, the strike was carried out by Soviet drones.

Here's What We Know

Politico claims that Ukraine attacked the airfields with modified Tu-141 Strizh drones that survived the collapse of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Security Service, General Directorate of Intelligence and General Staff of the Armed Forces do not comment on this information.

Politico says the strike on the Russian airfields demonstrates the AFU's ability to attack Russian military facilities on Russian territory hundreds of kilometers from the front line. It is also noted that the strike came as a surprise to the Kremlin. It is not ruled out that after this, Moscow will strengthen the defense of the airfields where the strategic missile carriers are located.

As for the Tu-141 Strizh, it has a length of over 14 meters and a wingspan of almost 4 meters. The maximum speed of the drone is 1110 km/h and its cruising speed is 1000 km/h. This means that from the border with Russia, the drones could fly to their targets in less than an hour - the distance to Digilevo and Engels-1 airfields is about 600 km and 700 km, respectively.
