United Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the U.S. and the world, has agreed to buy a wide-body aircraft Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Here's What We Know

The company has ordered 100 airliners with an option to increase the order for another 100 planes. The new contract will allow United Airlines to upgrade its fleet by replacing some of the older Boeing 777s and Boeing 767s. Deliveries will begin in 2024 and continue through 2032.

The competitor for the Dreamliner was Airbus's A350. However, United Airlines head Scott Kirby said the Boeing 787 was a more profitable aircraft for the carrier.

Along with the hundred Boeing 787 Dreamliner, United ordered 56 narrow-body Boeing 737 Maxes. The deal is estimated at $43 billion, but officially the amount of the contract is not specified.
