Rolls-Royce has created a 67 MW UltraFan aircraft engine that runs on environmentally friendly SAF fuel

British manufacturer Rolls-Royce has completed work on the huge UltraFan aircraft engine. The demonstrator went to the laboratory, where it will undergo a series of tests.

The UltraFan runs only on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and will be able to produce 11.3-45.5 tons of thrust. Fuel consumption compared to the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engine will be reduced by about 25%.

The new aircraft engine from the British company has a diameter of 140" (355.6 cm). It has a power output of 67 MW, i.e. 87,000 horsepower.

The Testbed 80 laboratory is located in the British city of Derby. It was designed with the UltraFan in mind. Demonstration tests of the new engine will start in 2023. If the tests are successful, the technologies used to create the UltraFan will be incorporated into existing Trent engines to reduce emissions and improve jet fuel efficiency.
