"Avatar: The Way of the Water" broke Japanese cinemas - projectors are not ready for movies with a frame rate of 48 FPS
The new film "Avatar: The Way of Water", which gathered more than $400 million at the worldwide for the first weekend, "broke" cinemas in Japan, because the equipment was not ready for broadcasting the picture at 48 FPS.

Not all cinemas are prepared to show movies at higher frame rates. This requires modern projectors, which a number of Japanese companies did not have. United Cinemas Co., Toho Col and Tokyu Corp.
"Avatar: The Way of the Water" is available in three formats: 2D 48 FPS, 3D 48FPS and 3D 24 FPS. The high refresh rate technology comes into play only in action scenes, while the frame rate is reduced to 24 FPS in regular scenes.
Japanese cinemas, which reported the technical problems, have decided to refund viewers. In this case, one of the institutions showed the movie, reducing the frame rate to 24 FPS.
