Photos of a high-altitude airship hovering near the Philippine island of Luzon in the South China Sea appeared on social media. The Chinese military has long been working on such platforms. They are capable of performing reconnaissance, surveillance, reconnaissance tasks for long periods of time.

Here's What We Know

The photos were published on Facebook. The original post with the pictures was deleted or hidden from view, but the photos managed to spread around the World Wide Web. Over time, they were picked up by the Philippine media. It is reported that the pictures were taken in the province of Pangasinan on Luzon Island, which is washed by the South China Sea on the west side.

Judging by the images, the drop-shaped airship has four tail fins. The airship appears translucent. It is possible that it has a metal hull with high reflectivity. Due to the fact that the airship is very far from the camera lens, it is difficult to say whether it carries any equipment on board and whether it has an engine.

Chinese specialists are working on several crewless airship projects. For example, the Tian Meng and the Yuan Meng. You can see them in the images below. They are designed to operate at stratospheric altitudes (11-50 km) and have been tested at least once.
