The People's Liberation Army of China has sent dozens of planes and half a dozen ships to Taiwan's air defense identification zone.

Here's What We Know

Seventy-one military aircraft have entered Taiwan's air defense identification zone. Among them were J-10, J-11, J-16 and Su-30 fighters in numbers of 6, 12, 18 and 6, respectively.

The Taiwanese military was also able to identify a Y-8 ASW reconnaissance aircraft, a KJ-500 long-range radio detection aircraft and a JY-8 transport aircraft. The planes were joined by a CH-4 strategic unmanned aerial vehicle and a WZ-7 reconnaissance drone.

Taiwan's armed forces monitored the situation. The Air Force, Navy and land-based missile systems were ready to respond to the Chinese army. The Ministry of Defense also reported that 43 PRC aircraft crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait, which is considered the informal border between the two nations.
