U.S. defense contractor L3Harris will modernize the fourth-generation F-16 Fighting Falcon fighters. But not for the United States.

Here's What We Know

The company has been awarded $29 billion to improve the aircraft of the Jordanian, Bahraini and Moroccan Air Forces. The fighters will be equipped with a BRU-57/A holder that will allow them to carry smart bombs weighing 500 and 1,000 pounds (226 and 453 kg, respectively).

Each F-16 will be equipped with two holders, allowing it to carry two more munitions. This means the Air Force command will be able to use fewer aircraft for certain missions.

L3Harris began supplying guided ammunition drop systems in 1999. Since then, the U.S. Air Force and allied nations have ordered more than 1,100.
