Politico: the U.S. will give Ukraine Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles with a range of up to 50 km, the AFU managed to adapt them for use with Buk SAMs
The United States of America is going to transfer Sea Sparrow surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine.
Here's What We Know
The information was shared by Politico, citing its sources. According to the publication, Ukrainian military specialists managed to adapt the Sea Sparrow for use with the Soviet Buk surface-to-air missile systems.
According to journalist and military analyst Roman Bochkal, most likely the reference is to the old modification ESSM Block I with the range of target engagement up to 50 km. NATO member states have many such missiles. Presumably, the missiles will be included in the next US military aid package. It must be announced today, on January 6.
By the way, in addition to the Sea Sparrow, the US will also transfer the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles to the AFU.
