German automobile concern BMW presented two concept cars under the common name i Vision Dee at the CES 2023. Both cars are able to change color.

Here's What We Know

Let's start with the fact that Dee in the name of the vehicles stands for Digital Emotional Experience. In one of the cars, the body and wheel rims are divided into 240 independent segments, which can be painted in one of 32 different colors.

The second car has another interesting feature besides the chameleon function. It is able to physically change the area around the headlights and the grille. This allows the car to mimic a human face. BMW has taught the i Vision Dee to express happiness, annoyance or show concentration.

The vehicle's features don't end there. The i Vision Dee has a projection display that takes over the entire windshield and extends to the side windows. It displays information about the state of the car, notifies about the situation on the road and has several digital avatars that can interact with the driver.

A projection panel is provided to control the display. The driver is offered several stages of digital content display. The basic level involves displaying only key information. At the "maximum" level, the driver will be able to immerse himself in the virtual world. This mode will probably only be available when the car is stationary.

The i Vision Dee will remain at the level of a concept car, but some solutions will be used in production cars. For example, a projection panel on the entire windshield will appear in two years.
