The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the United States was forced to order all airlines to stop passenger air travel within the country. This is reported by Reuters news agency.

Here's What We Know

The reason for this FAA decision was a major failure in the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM). It's a system that sends notifications on the state or changes in air navigation equipment and rules, as well as information about the dangers, with the help of telecommunications.

Flights were suspended until 4 p.m. (EET). Because of this FAA decision, a total of 103 flights were cancelled and 1,230 were delayed. At 09:50 (EDT) or 06:50 (PDT) the regulator has announced a gradual resumption of normal air traffic throughout the United States.

The cause of the NOTAM failure has not yet been determined. U.S. President Joe Biden has ordered an investigation into the incident. The head of the White House said that in a few hours the cause of the failure should be determined.
