Rocket Lab's first U.S. mission is about to begin. It is called Virginia Is for Launch Lovers.

Here's What We Know

Rocket Lab has never before launched an Electron rocket from the United States. If all goes according to plan, the historic launch will take place in less than two weeks. The U.S. mission Virginia Is for Launch Lovers is scheduled to debut on Jan. 23, 2023.

Rocket Lab has already officially confirmed the launch date. Electron will be launched from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) site in Virginia. The launch platform is called the Wallops Flight Facility.

The launch window will open at 6 p.m. local time and will last for two hours, meaning the launch will take place on Jan. 24 for Europeans. If the 18-meter Electron rocket fails to take off or crashes for any reason, Rocket Lab has reserved dates for early next month.

The company has already flown more than 30 missions. However, all launches have been from the Launch Complex 1 site in New Zealand. On Jan. 23 (24) Electron will send three radio-frequency surveillance satellites into space for HawkEye 360.
