Tesla suddenly stopped publishing information about accidents involving its cars in 2022. Now the manufacturer has just as suddenly started to share such data again.

Here's What We Know

Let's note right away that the statistics cover only the first three quarters of last year. In addition, the figures are uneven throughout the year, as there may be snow or ice on the roads in winter, and the daylight hours are shorter than in summer.

At the end of the third quarter, Tesla electric cars were involved in an accident only once per 6.26 million miles driven (10 million km) if the driver assistance system is activated. With automatic piloting turned off, Elon Musk's cars were involved in an accident every 1.71 million miles (2.75 million km).

Statistics tell us that Tesla electric cars are much safer than other cars when the driver assistance feature is activated. On average, cars in the U.S. are involved in an accident once per 652,000 miles driven (1 million km).

It is worth noting that the accident-free rate of Tesla cars with an active driver assistance system has increased by about 43 percent for the year. At the end of the last quarter of 2021, cars were involved in accidents every 4.35 million miles (7 million km).
