LG recalls 86" TVs weighing 45 kg because they can kill people
South Korean company LG is forced to recall four models of 86" TV sets that weigh about 45 kg. They could endanger people's lives. Fortunately, not a single case of injury, not to mention loss of life, has been recorded.
Here's What We Know
Televisions have suddenly started to fall if they are mounted on support feet. The stands that came with them proved to be unstable, causing the panels to topple over. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (SCPC) says that falls of LG televisions can lead to injuries or even deaths.
The SCPC recommends that owners immediately remove the TVs from their stands and put them in a safe place away from children. It is noted that panels that are mounted on walls are not affected by the problem.
The TVs are on sale at Walmart, Best Buy, Costco and Amazon. The cost is $1100 to $1900. Approximately 52,000 panels have been sold in the U.S. The TVs are also available in Mexico and Canada, but there they are priced from $1800 and $2900, respectively.
The problem affects four models: the 86UQ8000AUB, 86UQ7070ZUD, 86UQ7590PUD and 86NANO75UQA. Serial numbers begin with 202RM, 203RM, 204RM, 205RM, 206RM, 207RM or 208RM.
