NASA and Northrop Grumman will turn American cargo planes into drones
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) together with the American company Northrop Grumman will develop systems that will turn airplanes into drones. The goal is to make air cargo transportation in the United States unmanned.
Here's What We Know
NASA and Northrop Grumman will develop a separate solution that will be integrated into full-size cargo planes. For the time being they are talking about air cargo transportation only within the airspace of the United States.
The space agency and defense contractor want to create a model for integrating unmanned systems into national airspace. They are to develop a plan for checking aircraft readiness for flight, a test and demonstration map. All of this will take place in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
